This project featured a Model T-2150 cooling tower assembled and installed for a facility in Oregon. The tower sits on a concrete pad with plumbing connections ready at the basin, set against the dry, mountainous terrain typical of eastern and central Oregon.
The T-2150 is part of our T-2 model line of counterflow induced draft FRP cooling towers, sized for mid-range commercial and light industrial cooling loads. Like every CTS tower, it features non-corrosive fiberglass-reinforced plastic casing and basin construction, a circular footprint that performs the same regardless of prevailing wind direction, and modular components that simplify installation.
Oregon installations cover an unusually wide range of operating conditions because of the state’s geography. Coastal and western Oregon sites deal with high humidity, frequent rain, and milder year-round temperatures. Eastern and central Oregon, like the setting visible in this install, is high desert with very low humidity, hot summers, cold winters, and significant day-to-night temperature swings.
That low-humidity environment is actually ideal for evaporative cooling. Cooling tower performance is driven by wet bulb temperature, which is lower in dry climates than in humid ones. A facility running an evaporative cooling tower in central Oregon will typically see better thermal performance and lower approach temperatures than the same equipment running in a humid Gulf Coast environment. The trade-off is water consumption, since more evaporation happens in dry air, which makes water treatment, blowdown management, and makeup water planning especially important.
